Pregnancy hair question?

I'm 19 weeks pregnant in my second trimester and I wanted to go to a hair salon and get my hair died professionally for the holiday pictures but I was told that the fumes could harm the baby in regular hair dying kits so if I got it done at a salon could that hurt my baby??

Pregnancy hair question?

I dyed my hair while I was pregnant. And my baby turned out fine. I asked my Dr. before doing this and he said that this is a myth and is not true, also talked to my stylist and she said the same. Talk to your Dr. about it first, just to get his input on it.

They suggest waiting until the second trimester but you are already there so you should be fine.

There is no proof that dying your hair can harm your baby. Although dyes do contain chemicals that can cause birth defects, there is no proof that it can be absorbed through your scalp.

Most docs suggest waiting past the first trimester if you are concerned. The first trimester is when you are most susceptable to outside factors that can cause birth defects.

You would have to be in a small room, like a 8' by 6' bathroom with the doors and windows shut for hours to breathe in enough chemicals to harm your baby. If you go to the salon, you should be fine. Also a stylist can ensure that very little of the dye touches your scalp, versus you trying to do it yourself at home.

My doctor told me it should be fine after the first trimester, because the salons now have better hairdyes that arent harmful enough to hurt the baby

Pregnancy hair question?

go to the salon before your pics for an updo. you don't want to colour your hair while pregnant. it's not safe.

Pregnancy hair question?

its fine as long as your out of your first trimester

Pregnancy hair question?

my doctor told me it was ok after the first trimester. but maybe while you wait for the dying process you could step outside and get some fresh air.

Pregnancy hair question?

no the fumes do not harm the baby

i recently had my hair done professionally and it all turned out ok

only thing you have to watch is that while pregnant your more sensitive to the dye which could mean reactions on your skin are more likely but if you've done it before i don't see a problem

it did dry my hair out more and since then Ive been finding it breaks easier it can damage the hair anyway but in pregnancy hair changes make it easier to damage your hair

will not affect the baby in any way though

Pregnancy hair question?

i dye my hair myself...but i stay in a ventilated area when doing so

Pregnancy hair question?

The fumes are all the same..best thing to do is just make sure you are in a well ventilated area. I have done my hair w/both pregnancies and no problems and I do it at home in the bathroom w/the door and/or window open. If you feel that it may be too much then bring a painters mask and cover ur nose and mouth. My aunt is a proff. and has done hair thru her pregnancies and no problems. You will be fine and so will the baby. Congrats on pregnancy!

Pregnancy hair question?

i have 3 children and i coloured my hair with all of them, i have a mobile hairdresser and she said it is fine to colour hair, it also makes you feel alot better when your hair is done, i would probably go to salon apose to doing it yourself just so they will do exactly what you want i have done home kits in the past and not being pregnant and they have turned out. well not good. so get yourself to the salon and enjoy being pampered. hope this help and happy pampering.

Pregnancy hair question?

I researched that during my first pregnancy and there is no evidence that confirms that dying your hair will cause complications or deformities.

Pregnancy hair question?

Yes, whether you do it at home or at a salon it's still harmful for your baby.
